Frequently asked questions
What is Grey Market Premium (GMP)?+
GMP is the unofficial premium at which IPO shares trade before listing, in an unregulated "grey" market. Adding GMP to the issue price gives a rough estimate of where the stock might list — but it's sentiment-driven and can change quickly, so treat it as a signal, not a guarantee.
How is the estimated listing price calculated?+
Estimated listing price = issue price (upper band) + current GMP. It's shown on each IPO's page and updates as GMP changes.
Why didn't I get allotment even though GMP was high?+
Allotment is done by lottery/proportional basis when an IPO is oversubscribed, and has nothing to do with GMP. A high GMP usually means more people apply, which can actually lower your odds of allotment in the retail category.
Does high GMP guarantee listing gains?+
No. GMP reflects grey market sentiment right up to listing, but broader market conditions on listing day itself can change the outcome. Strong GMP that's held steady for several days is a better signal than a single day's spike.
How are the IPO reviews on this site put together?+
Each review is compiled from public sources — DRHP/RHP filings, GMP trends, and subscription data — and checked for accuracy before it's published. They're meant to give you a quick, well-sourced overview, not personalised investment advice, so always verify details independently and consult a financial advisor before investing.
